Queensland College of Art & Design and Goondiwindi State High School have collaborated to create new artworks for two locations along the Macintyre River for Lanescape. Lanescape Goondiwindi is an annual festival focused on improving community participation in arts and culture across the region. Every year a new theme prompts artists to respond with contemporary public art to create vibrant evolving spaces and places. This year the students responded to the theme of ‘flow’ exploring notions of continuity, rhythm, circulation, flux, passage, and movement.
‘Two Way Flow’ is a two-part mural designed and installed on two pump sheds along a walkway beside the Macintyre River. Used to strengthen flood preparedness in the area, these sheds are beacons in the landscape safeguarding the community against the impacts of natural flood events. Working together, students used collage to compose artwork designs that include suggestions of natural botanical forms. The final artworks create diverse passages and rhythms when walking or cycling along the river pathway.
“LiveArt has helped me to understand how I can incorporate my design and artistic skills for a meaningful career through real life practice within the community. This is a highly enjoyable course with the opportunity to work alongside some truly talented designers and artists.”
